Costa del Sol kids
With around 320 days of sunshine per year there is always something you can do in order to keep the kids and yourselves entertained. Since we have been living here for over 4 years now and have a couple of little ones myself that constantly need entertaining, we have found a number of great places that you can take the kids for a fun day out. Enjoy!
Fuengirola Zoo
Right slap bang in the middle of the large town of Fuengirola you will find the zoo. The zoo was first opened in 1970 but was in a terrible state with the cages and enclosures leaving a lot to be desired and in no way fit to hold beautiful wild animals.
In December 1998, Rain Forest took over the contract to run the former site, conducting a complete refurbishment in order to create the first zoo that was fully designed in accordance with the very latest “full-immersion zoo” concept.
The sub-tropical vegetation which grows on the Malaga coast was used to re-create the tropical rainforests of Madagascar, South East Asia and Africa.
There are many different varieties of animals on show including mammals, reptiles, birds and fish.
The zoo is a wonderfull day out for the family. Its 14.90 Euros for adults and 10.20 for children which is good value.
For further info, please refer to the Fuengirola Zoo website.
Crocodile Park - Torremolinos
If the kids have been pestering you for something a little more exciting to do, why not try the crocodile park which is situated along the coast in Torremolinos. The part is only small but has lots of crocs to see including some really big ones.
There are guided tours of the park which includes watching the crocs being fed(really good) and also watching the mad guide get in with the crocs and start prodding them with a stick! Not sure if he is still there or not or whether he was on the menu but its really entertaining and interesting at the same time.
There is also a nice cafeteria where you can get some good food and drink and also a gift shop with the usual ornaments, t-shirts and cuddly toys.
Tour Times: 11:30, 13:30, 15:30
Adults: 10,00 €
Kids: 7,50 €
Senior citizens (+65): 8,00 €
Children under 4 years: Free
Groups & Schools: Special prices
Tivoli World - Benalmadena
Another fab day out on the costa del sol for the kids is Tivoli World in Benalmadena which is a show and adventure park which has lots of exciting rides including big wheels, roller coasters and some smaller rides for the little ones. There are also a number of shows on offer including the wild west show in the “Western
Square” and an Andalusian show in the “Andalusia Square”.
If you are into the Jurassic period then there are dinosaurs to see(not real ones of course) which are great.
You can also take a train ride which is fun up to the top of Tivoli. Be careful though as when we got on it just before we were going home, he got to the top and told everyone to get out. We then had to walk down again. Not sure what all thats about but its a great day out for the kids and adults alike
The price is quite reasonable also. You can purchase a super tivolino ticket which costs 12 euro’s and this entitles you to full access to all of the rides. Alternatively you can purchase single tickets which entitle you to one ride per ticket.
For a full time table of when the park is open please see the Tivoli Timetable
Selwo Marina - Benalmadena Costa
On Benalmadena Costa you will find Selwo Marina which includes a dophinarium, penguinarium, sea lion and parrot displays.
The sea lion and dolphin displays take place within two large pools and can be watched from the tiered seating which gives good all round visibility for all.
If you would like to swim with the dolphins as many people do, you can do so for just 49 euro’s in one of a number sessions that are held every day.
There is also the penguinarium which has been constructed in order to make the penguins habitat as natural as possible. You can get really close to the little guys as they are behind a clear perspex style enclosure which enables you to view them going about their everyday business.
