Things to do on the Costa del Sol
If you are unable to find things to do on the Costa del Sol whilst living or holidaying there, you must have something wrong with you.
The weather makes it the perfect enviroment in order to have fun especially outdoors activities.
Skiing
No, I have not been drinking too much Sangria. You can ski on the Costa del Sol at the Sierra Nevada(Literally “snowy mountain range”) mountains which is about 1 hour away from the coast.
Being the second most mountanous country in the world after Switzerland and having some of the largest peaks in Europe , Spain is actually idea for skiing.
As one of Europe’s highest resorts it has a typically longthy season, traditionally opening at the end of November running through to the end of April or even into the first week of May.
Its not just about skiing either. You can snowboard, ice skate, do inner tubing or even roller sled.
You will also find that the accommodation is also excellent in the Sierra Nevada’s with a number of good quality family friendly hotels.
Beaches
One definate thing to do while on the Costa del sol is to soak up the sun. Its actually hard not too considering that it gets about 320 days a year of sunshine.
There are a large number of beaches to choose from. Some of my favourites include El Rosario which is just off the N340 a few miles outside of Marbella when heading from Malaga. Its a nice beach that is quite narrow but is generally not too packed as there are no hotels nearby and access is only really via the motorway.
Another of our favourties is Cabopino which is a little way past Calahonda on the N340. This is a fantastic beach with one or two chiringuitos(beach restaurants). The beach is usually pretty quiet even during the height of summer which is unusual for most beaches on the Costa del Sol during summer.
One thing that you will find with the beaches here are that they a immaculate. A lot of care is taken by the local authorities to keep them clean and tidy and it shows.
Needless to say, it gets hot in the summer so don’t over do it. Make sure you drink plenty of water and put on lots of sun tan lotion. If you have kids, make sure you cover their heads and smother them in cream as it doesn’t take much for them to burn, especially with the sea breeze.
Shopping
There are lots of great shops to check out on the coast including some fab shopping centres. If you are near Marbella, check out La Cañada which is a very large shopping complex. The shops are of a high standard and there is even a cinema and a number of quality restaurants on offer.
If you are down the other end of the coast near Fuengirola, try the Miramar shopping centre. Its about the same size as La Cañada but the shops aren’t as great although its still well worth a visit. If you have children there is a nice big play park at the top which is really fun
If you head into some of the towns such as Fuengirola, you will also find lots of cheaper shops where there are lots of bargains to be had. There are also a number of chinese bric a brac shops where you can find a surprising number of things really cheap.
So there you have it. Thats three things to do on the Costa del Sol. These should keep you busy for a lot of your holidays.
